Fall in Love with Fall Fashion, York Design Co Style

ydcfallimageAs the leaves change colors, so do our wardrobes. That’s why this week’s blog post is dedicated to the colors, prints, and textures that are trending for Fall 2014. Starting off with colors, jewel tones are always fall classics that can be worn each year. These bold colors are a great way to add so pizazz to you style, without being too bright or summery. Some colors to try this season are plum, emerald, gold, and cranberry. You can even wear several of these colors at the same time by looking for  floral and nature-inspired prints. Other popular prints for this fall are plaid, animal prints, metallic and stripes. Lastly, when thinking about fabric, with the season changing, it’s good to add some texture. Leather and suede will give a smooth feeling to your look while keeping you warm. Wool and twill will also keep you warm while surrounding you with an aura of a scholarly appearance, perfect for back-to-school and work. You can also wear outfits with embellishment of jewels, feathers and sequins for a fun fall night out!

The Mane Event: York Design Co Hair Styles

As we head back to school or work, we say good-bye to our beachy locks and resign to tying our hair out of faces. While running errands or spending hours in the office or library, there are so many different hair styles and accessories that can tame your mane. From clips, bobby pins, headbands, scarves, hats, and ribbons, there’s no reason to have a dull ‘do this autumn! Not only can you accessorize your hair, but there are so many different styles that are easy to do at home. With different variations of buns, braids and pony tails, you will never have a bad hair day again!

Manicure Monday

As you flip through the September issues of Vogue, InStyle, and Cosmopolitan, you can’t help but notice one thing they all have in common: fun fall manicure ideas. With the launch of Louboutin nail polish, the popularity of nail art, and the transition to autumn colors, there is no excuse to leave your hands un-manicured. Christian Louboutin iconic red soles were born when the designer used his assistant’s red nail polish to add some flare. Louboutin has now created 31 different nail colors that are launching this fall.

If you aren’t artistic, then nail polish sticks are an easy, long lasting alternative. For the creative crowd, nail pens and thin brushed paints can help you create the trending geometric nail art this autumn. Most importantly, the nail colors this season are very exciting. When the leaves change colors, we tend to dress in darker tones, however this fall’s nail polish choices will add some shimmer and shine to your ensembles as the days get cooler.

The History of Needlepoint

It’s time for a history lesson. As you may already know, York Design Company creates classic and preppy needlepoint accessories. While needlepoint may be trendy today, it has been around since 3000 B.C. Embroidery and needlepoint began as a form of decoration to cloth that historically can be found all over the world. Ancient remnants of needlepoint can be found in China, Egypt, Peru, India, Greece and Rome. Needlepoint was once a form of mother-daughter bonding during the Middle Ages until the turn of the 20th Century. The acts of needlepoint and cross-stitching have been passed down through generations and used to be seen as a symbol of family status. Some famous needlepoint stitchers include Mary Queen of Scots, Marie Antoinette, Queen Elizabeth, Mary Martin and Taylor Swift! Today, York Design Company keeps up the historical legacy of needlepoint with our hand-stitched products. You can see other modern examples of needlepoint in shoes, furniture, and artwork in other like-minded designers like Jonathan Adler and Tory Burch.

Back to School in Needlepoint

As the nights get cooler, we all must accept that summer is coming to an end.  While everyone is trying to make beach days last longer, one thing you can look forward to is back to school shopping. Whether you are heading into you first year of college, or are a recent grad, York Design Co has a great line of school spirit cuffs! Students, parents, and fans can enjoy our colorful cuff bracelets at sporting events, tailgates, and parties. And for a more casual feel, you can show off your school spirit in class or at the library.  With a great collection, our cuffs can help you cheer “Go team, go!” this school year.

Wedding Season

We are in the midst of wedding season, and whether you are the bride, a bridesmaid, or a wedding guest, York Design Co can help you complete your look.  An English folklore rhyme states that a bride should wear, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue,” on her wedding day. Our blue and white chevron cuff bracelet is both something new and blue, that a bride can be seen wearing at rehearsal dinner, the bridal shower, or to her bachelorette party. In addition, our clutches make perfect bridesmaids gifts.  Our accessories are great for daytime bridal showers, and for a bachelorette’s night out on the town!

York Design Co Needlepoint Monograms

As Reese Witherspoon once said, “If it’s not moving, monogram it!” Monograms have historically been around since the middle ages, when they were used as a signature for royalty. York Design Company has a great selection of monogram cuffs and handbags to help you embrace your inner queen. However, before you submit your custom order, there are a few things you need to know about monogram etiquette.  The basic monogram for women goes as follows: first initial, LAST initial, middle initial;  married women can use first initial, LAST initial, and maiden initial. Fortunately, yorkdesignco.com will automatically transform your name into correct monogram etiquette.  So what are you waiting for? Monogram away!

Summer Getaway

With temperatures rising as we come to the end of July, York Design Company wants to know how you beat the summer heat. Going on vacation, taking a dip in the pool, or hitting the golf course in the evening are just some ways to keep cool. No matter what you’re doing this summer, our cuff bracelets are a great way to express your personal style. For those of you who are enjoying a “staycation” our pink quatrefoil cuff is a great accessory for lounging by the pool. Golf fanatics will love our Tee Party cuff when visiting the country club. Lastly, for our world travelers who physically escape the heat, our elephant cuff will be a great reminder of all of your adventures. No matter what your summer getaway is, you can still look stylish while beating the heat.

World Cup Fashion

Who are you rooting for? Although the United States has been eliminated from the World Cup, everyone still has futbol fever. As Germany and Argentina are getting ready to square off in the finals, bars around the globe are getting ready for enthusiastic fans…and you need something fabulous to wear on Sunday! Regardless of what team you’re cheering for, one thing is for sure: sporting team colors is a must. The 2014 World Cup has proven to be a fashion runway of its own, with fans sporting neon jerseys, bright couture pieces, and wild face paint. It’s been so much fun to see the Brazilian soccer stadiums packed with colorful outfits and crazy head pieces. Fans of Germany can sport black, red and gold and those rooting for Argentina should opt for baby blue and white. Fortunately, York Design Co has colorful accessories to (always!) help you root for your favorite team! worldcupyorkdesignco

A Reflection: My Experience on “Bethenny”

bethenny timeline graphic

First of all, I’d like to give a huge thank you to all of you guys for watching the show, supporting me, and sending your encouraging e-mails, text messages, and notes. I’m so thankful for all of your support and it really helps to know I have great people backing me on this entrepreneurial journey!

The trip to see Bethenny was so much fun; I arrived in the city the day before the shoot and got to spend time with my family. We shopped, went out to dinner, and prepped for the big day ahead. My call time was super early Friday morning, so I was up and at ‘em before the sunrise and sitting in my own dressing room eating a yummy breakfast and drinking coffee – it was fabulous! Of course, I also loved the hair and makeup part…I got to sit in a “movie star mirror” (the kind with the light bulbs) and have my hair and makeup done by the show’s artists. If you know me on any level, you know that I live for this kind of stuff (all things girly and beautiful), so I was in heaven.

The production team was awesome and they hung out with me in the dressing room and back stage, helping me every step of the way. I had a blast getting to know them. The day we taped, Laila Ali was also on the show, so I watched her whole interview with Bethenny from backstage. She is beautiful and was so nice.

Meeting Bethenny was a wonderful opportunity. She is just like you see her on TV: energetic, driven, and funny! The segment was all about getting business advice from Bethenny, so she gave me some great pointers, offered her opinion on my business strategies and tactics, and surprised me at the end with some funding to help me with the business! I was so shocked and couldn’t have been happier to receive the life-size check they brought out for me on the set (it’s hanging in my office now). It was definitely a “PINCH ME!!!” moment.  I enjoyed every second of the experience and I can’t help but smile from ear to ear whenever I think back on the whole day – truly a magical moment for York Design Co.

Parcel & Journey Meets York Design Co

York Design Co is proud to partner with Parcel & Journey for today’s post! I met Joanna, Parcel & Journey’s founder, at a trade show and immediately fell in love with her products. The aesthetic and style is so cool, and the stories behind the pieces are even cooler. Parcel & Journey employs skilled artisans from all over the world by creating jobs for people that craft these interesting and ethnic pieces. Many of the pieces are relevant to the countries that they come from, giving each item a unique spin. P&J’s products are made from local materials native to each community the company works with, building a bridge from exotic places around the world to the socially conscious American consumer. We love the idea, and we think their perforated clutch would go great with our pink and brown monogrammed cuff. Check out our other ideas for building an outfit around P&J and YDC accessories. What would you pair these goodies with?

Take 30% off your first Parcel & Journey order before Monday, May 12th by signing up here (http://bit.ly/1iDXhli), and using code ParcelAndJourney30 at checkout.

York Design Co Bermuda Clutch

About a two-hour flight from New York City, Bermuda is the perfect tropical getaway for East Coasters. One of the best parts about Bermuda are the pink beaches, which are serene and beautiful. The weather averages are in the 80s during spring and summer months, and the temperature rarely drops below the 60s in the fall and winter. Our signature “Bermuda” clutch purse is inspired by Bermuda’s pink sandy beaches, framed by the clear blue waters and pastel-colored buildings.

In today’s roundup, we showcase some of our favorite parts about Bermuda with fun tropical snapshots and needlepoint borders. We love Beyonce’s colorful bikini/sarong combo from her vacation with her family on the island. We’re also inspired by the tried-and-true men’s office wear: a button-down shirt, sports jacket, knee socks, and Bermuda shorts. Of course, we couldn’t leave out the mopeds, which the natives and travelers alike use to scoot around the island (they appear on the back of our needlepoint clutch as well). If you’re ready for a quick getaway, check out Bermuda for the hot sun, pink sand, and great shopping in the capital city of Hamilton. Have you ever been to Bermuda? Where is your favorite vacation getaway?

In the Navy

Preppy Elegant Navy Cocktail Dress and Accessoriesnavytoile2

Navy blue is elegant and sophisticated, yet subtle. It’s a classic tried-and-true staple that trends season after season. The rich deep blue complements just about any color. Pair navy with a variety of neutral hues for a casual look or switch it up with a splash of color (I love pairing navy with pink).  I also like to wear navy with black accents sometimes, making for an effortlessly chic look for work.

Don’t just limit yourself to clothing – navy translates well with makeup too, putting a beauty spin on this timeless trend. I love to put a layer of navy eye-liner under black before I go out at night – it really makes your eyes pop. Also, adding NARS “Night Flight” shadow in the creases of your eyelids enhances a smokey eye when paired with the right grays.
