Linds in Vineyard Vines and J. Crew

Since the Stone Family is on vacation (yahoo!), my sister Lindsey graciously posed for a guest post this week. Linds has been one of the best cheerleaders and sounding boards for YDC since the very beginning and her style is second-to-none; it made perfect sense for her to showcase some of our accessories on the blog (she’s also beautiful, so there’s that too!). Linds’ style has always been preppy and classic and she carries it better than anyone I know (I’m talking rocking a crisp white Lacoste shirt, Lilly pants, Eliza B sandals and a monogram necklace in middle school, before preppy was cool — circa 2001). Anything nautical and navy is Lindsey’s jam. Her closet is packed with so many goodies and I thought her outfit for this post was adorable (especially the fun earrings). Enjoy!

A Spring Day in Annapolis

This past weekend, my mom, sister and I spent the day in Annapolis, Maryland. We had so much fun walking around town, shopping, lunching and laughing. Aubrey loved looking at the boats and the ducks and we all enjoyed people watching and the live music. There are some awesome restaurants there; one of our favorites is Harvest Wood + Grill Tap. They have amazing fried oysters and a fun bar-like casual atmosphere right on the water. We also stopped by our favorite boutiques, 3 Sisters, The Lucky Knot and Kokopelli (among others!). A perfect day trip from D.C. or Baltimore!

Blue Striped Cold Shoulder

This top is the epitome of spring fashion — blue stripes, cold shoulder sleeves and ruffles! I got it at a store I discovered in Boston recently called Primark (think H&M meets Ikea) for under $20! They have everything from clothing to shoes, home goods, baby clothes, luggage, makeup and more. The prices were unbelievable, so you can get a bunch of trendy pieces that you’ll only wear for the season and not feel guilty about spending the money (I went a little nuts there, so you’ll see a ton in future blog posts!). Pair with classic accessories and the options are endless…unfortunately, you can’t shop with them online yet, but I have a feeling they’ll popping up in many cities soon!

Cozy Irish Knit Sweater and Leggings for Storm Prep

Usually St. Patrick’s Day marks the start of spring in the District, but today we’re bracing for a snow storm before our favorite green holiday. Keeping in the spirit of things, I brought my winter clothes back out (sigh – we were so close!) and opted to hunker down in this cozy Irish knit and these warm Jack Rogers duck boots. Can’t go wrong with leggings and an oversized cardigan while waiting out the storm!

White Ruffle Zara Top and Needlepoint Gator Belt

Happy Monday! Today we’re featuring our alligator needlepoint belt, a great spring accessory, in navy and pink. I matched this belt with a ruffle peplum top from Zara, my favorite comfy jeans and Canfora sandals. Canfora Capri sandals are the bejeweled hand-made frocks Jackie O used to wear on her summer European excursions with Aristotle Onassis. The shiny rhinestones make such an elegant statement and these silver pair match everything! The brand is celebrating 70 years of rich Italian history and classic style. Each shoe is carefully crafted upon order, so make sure you budget in five days for creation.

Flower Power

Weekends spent outside are the best kind…that’s why when the temperature rose to a whopping 76 degrees on this last weekend in FEBRUARY, we took total advantage of the situation!

The bright floral pattern on my Charles Henry dress beckoned spring, so I whipped it out of my closet and paired it with a pair of classic patent leather wedges, fun tassel earrings and my monogram YDC clutch. We’re gearing up for our semi-annual spring monogram order (get yours in by April 1!), so this was a perfect way to kick off the season.

Hope you all enjoyed your warm weekend, and have a great week!

Burgundy and Leopard Print

A few years ago when they couched leopard print as a neutral, I was totally on board. It’s the perfect pop of pattern for any accessory and gives every outfit a little more personality. I love our “seeing spots” needlepoint cuff because it evokes neutral colors and also has gold shimmery threads that catch the light at just the right angle. For running errands over the weekend, this outfit was comfortable and fun. I paired it with a bright pink lip because I’m willing spring to get here quickly!

Off-the-Shoulder Day Date

This weekend was all about an off-the-shoulder look for a day date with Doug. I got this top from my favorite shop in Old Town, 3 Sisters. It’s super comfy because it’s a lightweight, flowy material, so it works well with tight jeans, balancing the ensemble. I also love the bow detailing on the sleeve. To accessorize, I added a black and white straw bag from Bosom Buddies Bags, another great local brand based in Baltimore. They offer Indonesian straw bags adorned with beautiful trims, ribbons, buttons and motifs. Of course I couldn’t resist throwing on a black and white chevron cuff to match — gotta add some needlepoint in somewhere!

Petunia Pickle Bottom Diaper Bag Review

Before Aubrey was born, I did a lot of research trying to find the perfect diaper bag. After a ton of deliberation, I ordered Petunia Pickle Bottom’s Captivating Constantine Downtown Tote from Pottery Barn Kids and I’m so glad I did! The bag has a glazed coated canvas and water-resistant interior so it’s easy to wipe down, which as new mamas know, it’s essential for any product. Messes are frequent, and taking a quick baby wipe to the bag makes cleaning up a cinch (hello, spilled bottles!). It’s the perfect size to stash under the stroller and the compartments are great — six places to keep bottles and sippy cups, diapers, snacks and toys. It also comes with a washable changing pad and hard plastic wipes case. I chose the gray and white pattern because it matches everything and is pretty versatile in terms of seasons.

What diaper bag or similar product do you use? Doug uses the Storksak backpack on our outings with Aubrey and loves it because it’s a man’s diaper bag in disguise. #dadbrand 😉

Buffalo Plaid Weekend

The tartan plaid may be tucked away until next Christmas, but we’re still rocking our buffalo plaid over here! It’s a great pattern for not-so-festive, cold and blustery months — super cozy! I found this headband from the Etsy shop Briar’s Bowtique and I love how comfortable it is for Aubrey (no marks!). The bow part also keeps its shape very well. I also really like Burt’s Bees Baby waffle tops because they’re warm and snugly for little ones while running around town. We had a pretty low-key weekend doing errands, exercising Olive and relaxing. While still chilly, the weather in D.C. has been relatively mild, so we were able to play outside a little (I’ll take it!).
